The acronym stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration. This is the agency that is in charge of everything that has to do with projects that are related to space. There have been many important accomplishments made by NASA and plenty of space programs have been launched. There are many world records that have been broken by NASA and they have also joined forces with other countries in order to be able to get through several missions that have taken years to be accomplished.
There have been some specific projects that are noteworthy. Amongst those is project mercury, which was a program designed with the purpose of sending a man into space with the existing technology. John Glenn became the very first American to be launched into orbit.
Project Gemini was a longer project that had several long space missions that last weeks. Then you have the most popular and famous of all projects and that was project Apollo. This was the program that allowed for the first man to even walk on the moon and it was broadcasted on national television and for the world to see.
Other relevant and important programs have taken place since then and there is no doubt that new frontiers are being found each year. NASA is already working on a way to be able to start colonizing Mars and trips to the moon will also be made available for commercial flights in the not so distant future.
